Meet Ginny!
Meet Ginny! This perfectly petite Blue & Red Heeler mix is looking for a forever home with a family who will love her for her spirit and happy attitude.
Ginny is brave, strong, loving, and playful. Fetch is her favourite playtime activity. She will play with balls, frisbees, stuffies, and really anything that moves! She loves to accompany her humans to coffee shops, grocery shopping, and all sorts of doggie friendly places. Her typical Heeler stamina means that she can be on the go all day without tiring, so she’s the perfect “take with” dog. Ginny would LOVE to find a forever home where she gets to go lots of walks and hikes. Exploring the sniffs and paths of new places might just be her favourite activity.
Ginny LOVES water and her foster family know that she’d lose her mind with excitement if she were able to visit the beach. She’s the type of dog who would get endless zoomies in the sand and the waves. Ginny deserves a home where she is spoiled, where her intelligence and character are treasured, and where she is able to live her best life.
Ginny loves other dogs, especially those who are her size. Ginny responds extremely well to other dogs’ behaviour and respects their space when asked to. She becomes a little shy around dogs who are larger than her, preferring slower introductions so that she can feel safe around them. She also doesn’t get upset when other dogs resource guard their toys or food, preferring to vacate the area than to react.
Ginny shares her current foster home with cats. She is, for the most part, great with them. She will, however, try to engage in play with them, which some cats many not appreciate! When Ginny was initially rescued, she was best friends with the 8-year-old kiddo who lived there, spending many happy times frolicking with her. She’d do well in a home with kids or cats, provided that her forever family are patient with perfecting her training (since she is a herder, and will try to herd cats and kids, gently!).
Ginny is extremely trainable and smart. Like a typical Heeler/Cattle Dog puppy, she will thrive in a home with lots of activity and lots of opportunities for enrichment. She knows “sit”, “down”, and is learning “spin”. She knows her name and will come when called, mostly. She is thriving in her foster home (an apartment with no yard) with 2-3 walks per day, some play sessions, and enrichment activities. Her favourites are snuffle mats and the Pupsicle. Her foster family have been working on her tendency to bark for attention and have made great strides. She responds particularly well to redirection through play or training.
Ginny weighs 19lbs and is around 8 months old. Puppy weight calculators estimate that she won’t get any bigger than 30lbs. She is smart, spunky, and loving. She is 90% potty trained, sometimes even letting her foster parents know when she needs to potty! She behaves perfectly in her crate when left home alone or she can be left to roam freely. She prefers to sleep with her human or dog friends, if she is allowed. Since she’s a miniature version of a Heeler, she doesn’t even take up a lot of space in bed!
Ginny’s foster family have fallen in love with her quirky little personality. She enjoys watching the world go by from the cat beds in the window of her foster home. She loves to listen, learn, play, and engage. She is an ideal companion who truly brings joy to the home, with her silly little mannerisms.
